Chapter 1533: Finally Meeting Face-to-Face
"Really?" Dolly was thrilled and a bit skeptical. They video called a lot and this topic came up often, but Daddy and Mommy had never given a clear answer, always kind of dodging it.But these two parents had a habit: in front of their kids, their word was law, and they never lied.
Gigi just jumped up with joy. "Yay! I’m gonna be a big brother! This is awesome!" The snow on the ground was stomped into deep pits by him.
Gigi completely believed what Daddy and Mommy said. They would never lie to a kid! Their integrity score was absolutely off the charts!
Hearing this, Kristina Kingston turned her gaze to her daughter-in-law. Suppressing the joy in her heart, half believing, half doubting, she asked, "Mia, is this true? Justin isn’t joking, right?"
The surprise had come so suddenly she no longer trusted her own son.
"It’s true, Mom." Mia Lane looked over, her gaze gentle, the corners of her lips stained with a happy smile. She took the ultrasound printout from her pocket and handed it to her. "We just got back from the hospital, this is the test result we just picked up."
Kristina hurried to take it, stopped walking in the snow, and read the words on it twice. The smile at the corners of her lips deepened bit by bit. She was so excited!
Mia stopped and held her breath, watching every expression and look on her mother-in-law’s face. Seeing how happy she was, Mia’s eyes softened infinitely.
"This is wonderful!" Kristina broke into an ecstatic smile, her hand holding the paper trembling. "I’m going to be a grandma again! These days, only children are a kind of wealth you can’t buy with money. If it weren’t so hard on the body, people really should have more."
Her mother-in-law loved children too, and that made Mia very happy.
"Come on, come on, let’s get inside." Kristina quickly pulled her into the living room and reminded her, "You mustn’t catch a cold. You’re not going into the office these days, right? I saw the forecast, the temperature’s going to drop again." Then she glanced at her son. "Justin Kingston, you handle the company stuff yourself!"
"..."
"Right, Mia, do you have any early pregnancy symptoms? How are you feeling?" Mia was about to speak when Kristina cut in again, "Are you eating well? Sleeping well?"
"I..." Mia was just about to answer.
"If you feel uncomfortable at all, you must tell Dr. Shelby. He’ll know what to do!" Kristina was very happy, but also very worried about her. "You may have experience giving birth, but childbirth for a woman is a suffering to begin with." She simply treated her like a daughter to dote on.
Feeling her mother-in-law’s sincere love, Mia was deeply moved.
She reached out and gently hugged her. "Mom, thank you for always helping us with the kids and still worrying about me. Don’t worry, I’m really fine."
"I’m willing to help raise this baby too when it’s born." Kristina hugged her back. "Isn’t that what grandmas are for, taking care of kids? I wouldn’t be at ease leaving them to the maids anyway." She truly accepted and grew to like her.
People say time tests everything; this mother- and daughter-in-law relationship was now very solid.
Outside Providence Hospital.
After being stuck in traffic the whole way, Jocelyn Morgan finally arrived. There was a sharp pair of scissors tossed on the passenger seat. She unbuckled her seatbelt, got out of the car quickly, and headed straight for the hospital lobby.
Upstairs, in the director’s office.
The door was closed, but not locked.
Under normal circumstances the door would be left open; it only got closed when Ian Shelby wasn’t in, so no one had knocked on it this time.
Ian was in his scrubs, standing just behind the door. It was the fifth time he raised his wrist to check the time. He wondered... Was Jocelyn not coming after all?
Or... maybe she couldn’t make it here?
He pressed down the emotions in his heart, his chest tightening for no reason, his brows furrowing without him noticing. He missed her terribly.
But he had almost caused her to lose her life. That kind of guilt couldn’t be dispelled in a short time. If he couldn’t adjust himself, this guilt might haunt him for the rest of his life.
Jocelyn walked out of the elevator and quickly ran to the outside of his office, only to see that the door was closed.
She didn’t know if he was inside or not.
They hadn’t seen each other for a while, and so much had happened recently. For a moment, Jocelyn didn’t know what she should say to him, she only felt an intense urge to see him.
She stood outside the door and calmed herself down.
About two minutes later.
Just as Jocelyn was about to open the door and walk in, Ian opened it from the inside. Like a slow-motion scene in a movie, their eyes met...
