Chapter 84 The Worst of Times
Chapter 84 The Worst of Times
"Tch, a bunch of stinking knights. Just a bunch of roughnecks, what's so great about them?" The nobles all showed their disdain, especially the young man with the crown on his head, who crossed his arms, raised his chin high, and looked utterly contemptuous.
This man was named Jax. He had affinity with all three elements. A thousand years ago, his family produced a formal wizard and several wizard apprentices. They always seemed to produce wizarding seeds with elemental affinity. Apart from Annie, he was the most sought-after person by the nobles. He would occasionally flick his sleeves, displaying an air of superiority.
Lin Wei simply smiled, noted down the name, a slight smile playing on his lips, his eyes calm.
The knights watched coldly, pretending not to hear. Everyone was used to the fact that knights were inferior to others. Some gritted their teeth, while others clenched their fists.
"Is everyone here?"
Just then, a ripple appeared on the small wooden house in front of everyone. After the ripple trembled, the air seemed to be torn apart, and a young nobleman with bright eyes appeared out of thin air in front of everyone. Behind him was the respectful wizard lamplighter, Monger, who bowed slightly and walked slowly.
"My Lord Wizard."
Everyone bowed their heads in respect, some bending at a ninety-degree angle, others with their hands hanging at their sides.
Lin Wei's eyes widened. This was completely beyond his perception. The two people seemed to have appeared out of thin air. His mouth was slightly open, and he was shocked.
On the surface, he remained the same as everyone else, obediently lowering his head, but inwardly he thought, "Is this the method of a wizard? This person can probably kill me without breaking a sweat."
"Hmm, all very young life forms... It reminds me of the day four hundred years ago when I traveled from the human world to the wizarding world. Time really flies." The young nobleman transformed into a middle-aged man with aged and slender fingers. He took out an exquisite wand and played with it, turning it gently in his hand. "My name is Randolph, a first-circle wizard from the Burning Faction's Vineyard, and I am your guide."
"The wizarding world has undergone significant changes in recent years. It's the best of times and the worst of times. I hope you're mentally prepared."
Hearing this, Lin Wei was speechless, and the corner of his mouth twitched slightly.
Can't we have a better era?
He still wanted to go to the Wizarding World and quietly develop his character.
Why is it that wherever I go, the environment is always bad? His brows furrowed tightly.
"Children, it's worth mentioning that you have one more chance to regret it. Once you enter the wizarding world, your original identities and backgrounds on the human continent will cease to exist. If you are not mentally prepared to abandon everything, you will have one more chance to leave. I will use an amnesia potion to erase your memories."
As soon as the words were spoken, people looked at each other in bewilderment. Some began to waver, their faces turning red as they started to back down. Some kept rubbing their hands together, while others paced back and forth.
Soon, nearly fifteen people left the hut. Before leaving, they all drank the amnesia potion. When they drank the potion, their brows were furrowed and their expressions were painful.
"Hmm, not bad, there are still thirty-five children." Randolph nodded, not taking what had just happened to heart, his expression calm as still water.
"Among your batch of seeds, apart from Miss Anne, whose affinity with water element reached a high level and was selected in advance by a third-circle wizard, the rest of you were randomly assigned to various wizarding organizations based on your affinity."
"Of course, there are also a few other talented children who have already been selected by established wizarding organizations. Those whose names I call, please step forward. I will use a special teleportation scroll to send you to your designated wizarding organizations," Randolph said calmly, his eyes sweeping over the crowd.
The young girl Annie, along with several other wizarding seeds, stepped forward excitedly. Their faces were beaming with excitement, and their steps were light. Their circumstances were clearly superior to those of Lin Wei and others with ordinary talents.
The others felt a mix of emotions. Some were envious, staring intently at those who stepped forward; others were resentful, biting their lips tightly. Unfortunately, circumstances were beyond their control, and no one said anything.
Lin Wei prayed silently, "Please assign me to a peaceful and tranquil wizarding organization." He clasped his hands together, his eyes filled with expectation.
Randolph pulled out a parchment scroll enveloped in a rich water element, lit it with his wand, and a large blue door appeared out of thin air, seemingly leading to a distant place, exuding a mysterious aura.
Randolph smiled and said, "Annie, please give my regards to your teacher, Ms. Pearl. The Fog Sea Alliance is a good organization."
"I will, Mr. Randolph," Anne said timidly, her voice barely audible.
"Good boy, come in. The wizarding world welcomes you."
Anne trembled all over and stepped inside with excitement. With a "pop," she disappeared from the spot, leaving only a slight ripple.
"Next, Dobby, District 21, the Flame Faction Wizarding Organization, the Brotherhood of Flames." Randolph lit a red rock and calmly addressed the appearing portal of flames, which radiated a scorching aura.
Apart from the exceptionally gifted Annie, he didn't pay much attention to the other wizarding seeds, and his expression remained indifferent.
The Fire Rhino Knight was equally excited. He waved to Lin Wei and the others and stepped inside without hesitation. His face was resolute. His affinity for fire element was quite good, which made him a target of this wizarding organization.
"Next, Julay, North 19th District, Metal Faction Wizarding Organization, Mithril Workshop."
A young man walked arrogantly through the metallic doorway, his head held high and his steps firm.
"Doffin, District 17, Forest Faction Wizarding Organization, Forest Soul Society." Randolph's voice was calm as he lightly tapped his wand.
"Thank you, Mr. Randolph." A green-haired girl with bright eyes and an undisguised joy on her lips clasped her hands in front of her, bowed, and skipped into the green portal that appeared. Her light steps seemed to carry her anticipation for the future.
After using several more tokens, there were still 28 seeds left on the field.
The atmosphere around them was somewhat somber.
Lin Wei, the Dune Knights, and the crowned noble youth Jax were all present. Jax stood with his arms crossed, his face so gloomy it looked like it could drip water.
Apart from Lin Wei, everyone else looked extremely grim. Some had their brows furrowed, while others pouted. Everyone had hoped that they would be targeted by the wizarding organization beforehand, but nothing happened.
Lin Wei lowered his head slightly, thinking to himself, "I just need to develop steadily; the organization doesn't necessarily have to be strong."
