Chapter 3 I Can Win Twice
Chapter 3 I Can Win Twice
Mrs. Conniesha's rosy lips parted slightly and then closed again, like a goldfish suddenly pulled out of the water.
It was clear that the other party was in a state of extreme shock.
"How...how did you know?"
"Because I'm Miss Charlotte's assistant!" Li Ang deliberately curled his lips into a half-smile as he looked at him.
In reality, he was secretly overjoyed to have his magic touch.
Holy crap, this ability is so useful!
Although it got itself into trouble regarding who the murderer was, it was incredibly adept at finding dirt on others.
Connie took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down.
"I made sure to observe the surroundings before I went in. Were you following me? No! Or did you investigate me beforehand?" she asked.
"No need for investigation, no need for surveillance." Li Ang sat down about a foot away from Charlotte's body, trying not to let her blood stain his clothes. "Some things, you can know with just one look."
Conniesha was silent for a moment, then let out a soft sigh, her eyes becoming even more melancholy.
"Okay." She looked up at Li Ang again, cautiously probing, "Now that you know... what do you want?"
"What do I want?" Li Ang raised an eyebrow. "Mrs. Connie, you were the one who approached me for a collaboration first."
In fact, Li Ang knew nothing.
Who knows what Conniesa was doing going to see theater owner Norman alone late at night? If you said she was playing poker, he wouldn't believe it for a second.
Judging from her reaction, simply playing cards wasn't enough to elicit such a shocked expression from her; it seemed to be something more secretive.
Oh no! Could it be something indescribable, like practicing some kind of heresy?
For some reason, Li Ang had this guess inexplicably.
Connie bit her lip.
Her original plan was to use the evidence of Leon's murder to blackmail him into helping her clear her name in the Noven case as Charlotte's assistant.
But now, this man also holds leverage over her, and her leverage is clearly more lethal than his.
After all, no one would believe that a woman who had contact with infidels was innocent.
That damned Norvin! He's already obsessed with some lousy Primordial Lord Church, and now he wants to drag me down with him!
He even threatened her, telling her not to tell anyone about the money he borrowed. Now she's caught in the middle, caught between two opposing sides.
Connie was initially quite pleased to learn of the other person's death. This way, no one would know that she had been in contact with a heretic, and she wouldn't even have to pay her debts. It was like winning twice!
But for some reason, she became the prime suspect, and now others know that she went to Norman's room.
Connie is in a major crisis!
Would this man force her to do anything strange? Like those novels that commoners like to read, where he pins down this noblewoman...
The more Connie thought about it, the more likely it seemed, and her face became even rosier.
Just then, Li Ang suddenly spoke up: "I can help you. But there are a few conditions."
Connie's eyes lit up for a moment, then she quickly became wary again. "What are the conditions?"
"First, regarding Miss Charlotte's death," Leon glanced at the girl on the bed, her unseeing blue eyes staring at the ceiling, "you need to remain silent. Don't mention anything you've seen here to anyone."
Connietha nodded repeatedly. "Don't worry. I won't tell anyone that you killed Miss Charlotte."
"Thank you, but you don't need to say it out loud. Besides, I never said that I killed Miss Charlotte," Li Ang said with a dark face.
The clues on the detective's body were still flashing brightly, as if slapping him in the face, but Li Ang remained stubborn and refused to admit it.
I did it ≠ I have to admit it!
I'll say it again: the original owner, Li Ang, was the one who killed him, so why are you arresting me, the transmigrator Li Ang?
Although, in reality, it was more like he was awakening memories of his past life.
"I understand! I understand! Actually, I've read a lot of stories in novels about assistants climbing the corporate ladder by stepping on their employers, so I can understand you." Connie patted her chest, a wave of excitement washing over her, with an expression that said, "I get you."
You know nothing!
Li Ang clenched his fist and then quickly relaxed it, continuing, "Secondly, I need you to tell me everything about the Noven case, and why you said it involved superpowers."
"This..." Connie hesitated for a moment, "What does this have to do with our cooperation?"
“It’s very important,” Li Ang said. “I’m Miss Charlotte’s assistant. The cases she took over will naturally be handled by me.”
"If I can find out the real culprit in the Noven case, your suspicion will naturally be cleared."
These words sounded grand and dignified, but what Li Ang was thinking was something else entirely:
He knew nothing about things like "superpowered individuals," "sequences," and "armored systems" in this world.
Conniesha clearly knew about these things; at least the fact that she blurted out the word "superpowered" when she saw Charlotte's letter was proof of that.
Through the Norman case, he could easily extract the rules of this world from her.
In other words, I can win twice!
Connie stared at him for a while, seemingly assessing the credibility of his words, before finally nodding.
"Okay. I understand." She glanced at the door and lowered her voice, "But you have to come to my room first."
"Why?" Li Ang asked, frowning.
"Don't you need to clean up the scene? Or are you waiting for a second person to find it?" Connie asked, looking at the detective lying dead on the bed with her eyes wide open.
"I'm just investigating the real culprit!" Li Ang said through gritted teeth after a long silence.
"I see. Well then, Mr. Moriarty, I'll be waiting for you in room 303." Connie stood up, straightened her skirt, and covered her mouth with a smile.
She then opened the door, looked around to make sure no one was in the hallway, and quickly left, lifting her skirt.
Li Ang closed the door and leaned against it, letting out a long sigh.
Great! The first problem is gone.
The next step is to figure out how to dispose of this body—
Before he could figure out what to do, there was another knock on the door.
Has Conniesha returned?
Li Ang walked to the door and asked in a low voice, "Mrs. Connie, is that you?"
"It's me." A young woman's voice came from behind the door; it wasn't Connie's.
Li Ang's heart skipped a beat, and he subconsciously glanced at Charlotte on the bed.
The other person's white hair was spread out on the pillow, their eyes were staring at the ceiling, and their chest was covered in dark red. There was no way to explain this!
"Open the door quickly!" the person behind the door urged again.
Left with no other choice, Li Ang opened the door a crack.
