Chapter 20 Kindergarten
Chapter 20 Kindergarten
Liu Xiaoli looked at the two children who were clearly resistant, feeling utterly overwhelmed.
She had no choice but to settle for second best and discuss it with Chen Lang.
"Then...how about this, at school, you call her 'older sister,' and she calls you 'younger brother,' okay?"
"Come back home, and you'll be the same as before."
She knew that Chen Lang was much more sensible than her daughter and could also reason things out more effectively.
As for that stubborn daughter, well, let's just give up on her.
Chen Lang nodded obediently.
So, at the kindergarten gate.
Chen Lang and Liu Qianmeizi walked hand in hand into this brand new world.
The kindergarten they are going to attend is the WH Municipal Government Health Kindergarten.
Located in Jiang'an District, Dongting Street is right next to the riverbank, offering a quiet oasis amidst the bustling city.
This was the most prestigious government-run park in Wuhan at the time, and most of the people who could get in were children of government officials or state-owned enterprise employees, whose families were generally well-off.
On the first day of kindergarten, the classroom was filled with the sound of crying.
All sorts of heart-wrenching cries of "I want my mom!" and "I want to go home!" rose and fell, like a scene from a large-scale disaster movie.
Chen Lang and Liu Qianmeizi became the most unique sight in the class.
They didn't cry or make a fuss.
With Chen Lang by her side, Liu Qianmeizi did not feel too much fear or unease in this unfamiliar environment.
She was simply curious and intrigued, looking around at the spacious and bright classroom.
The classroom had clean wooden floors, a pedal piano in the corner, and a small black-and-white television by the window.
In the early 90s, this was absolutely top-of-the-line for a kindergarten.
Looking at her friends who were crying their eyes out, Liu Qianmei felt a little smug.
Hmph, I'm not like you guys, I have a younger brother.
Chen Lang was also observing this new environment.
His gaze swept across the classroom, over the crying children, and finally landed outside the window.
The yard is large, shaded by green trees, and has a large iron slide and several rocking horses.
Turning around, Liu Qianmeizi's eyes lit up.
His eyes were filled with longing for those outdoor toys.
Chen Lang let out another long sigh.
Ugh!
He really didn't want to play such childish games.
Their homeroom teacher is named Zhang Yiyu.
A very young and gentle female teacher.
She quickly noticed two children in the class who never cried or made a fuss and were as beautiful as porcelain dolls.
She walked over, squatted down, and asked with a smile.
"Children, what are your names?"
Liu Qianmei tilted her head back and answered crisply.
"My name is Liu Qianmeizi."
Chen Lang was much more polite.
"Hello teacher, my name is Chen Lang."
"Good girl."
Teacher Zhang patted their heads.
"So you are...?"
"He's the younger brother!"
Liu Qianmeizi eagerly answered.
"She's the older sister."
Chen Lang said it aloud, but silently added a sorrowful sentence in his heart.
She was born in the Year of the Rabbit, and so was I.
She is 107, and I am 95.
Zhang Yiyu was amused by them.
She looked at the two children, who were holding hands and looked exceptionally well-matched, and felt an overwhelming fondness for them.
And so, kindergarten life began.
In the morning, I sang, danced, and drew with the teacher.
At noon, we ate lunch at the kindergarten.
The meals were of a very high standard, with four dishes and a soup, including meatballs and steamed pork, which were the kids' favorites. It was even better than what we ate at home.
During nap time, everyone has their own little bed, blanket, and pillow.
In the afternoon, it's the outdoor activity time that the children look forward to the most.
You can go to the yard, run around, play on the slide, and play in the sand.
Chen Lang was dragged by Liu Qianmeizi towards the giant iron slide that he thought was incredibly childish.
At 4:30 p.m., the kindergarten dismissal bell rang on time.
Parents gradually gathered at the kindergarten gate.
Liu Xiaoli stood out in the crowd, pushing a 28-inch bicycle.
She wore a well-fitting dress, her long hair flowing over her shoulders, and she possessed an outstanding temperament.
Countless parents who came to pick up their children glanced at her.
Many fathers who rarely come to pick up their children silently made a decision in their hearts.
My wife works too hard at home, so I'll pick up the kids myself tomorrow.
Soon, Teacher Zhang Yiyu led a row of small figures out.
"Sisi, Langlang, Mommy's here to pick you up!"
As soon as Liu Qianmeizi saw her mother, she excitedly rushed over to her like a little butterfly.
"Mother!"
Chen Lang waved politely to Teacher Zhang.
"goodbye teacher."
Goodbye, Langlang, see you tomorrow!
Liu Xiaoli picked up Chen Lang and placed him on the rattan seat fixed in front of the bicycle.
Then he helped Liu Qianmeizi to the back seat and helped her up.
This old-fashioned bicycle is the daily commute vehicle for the family of three.
From home to kindergarten, and from kindergarten to the opera house.
"Hold on tight!"
Liu Xiaoli pushed her cart and steadily merged into the flow of people leaving get off work.
The bicycle couldn't be ridden because the two children were on it, making it unstable.
She could only push it, taking it one step at a time.
The setting sun cast their shadows very long.
"Mommy, Mommy, let me tell you, the slide in our kindergarten is so tall!"
In the back seat, Liu Qianmeizi chattered excitedly, sharing her experiences from her day at kindergarten.
"And there's a rocking horse! My brother and I rode it together, it was so much fun!"
"We also had meatballs today, and they were even better than Grandma's!"
Liu Xiaoli pushed the stroller while smiling and listening to her daughter's innocent words.
But her attention was mostly focused on Chen Lang in front of her.
"Langlang, did you listen to your mother at school?"
Did you call her "sister"?
Before Chen Lang could answer, Liu Qianmeizi in the back seat interrupted him.
"He called me 'sister'!"
His tone was incredibly smug.
Chen Lang had only ever called her "wife" since she was little, which made her, as the older sister, feel very embarrassed.
Chen Lang sat in the front and pursed his lips.
He randomly picked some things that had happened at school and reported them to Liu Xiaoli.
"My wife was naughty today. She was picky about her food at lunch and gave me all the vegetables."
"My wife was very well-behaved today. While other children were crying and looking for their mothers, she didn't cry and even laughed at them."
Liu Xiaoli listened to the little boy in front of her, who was seriously calling her "wife" over and over again, and she couldn't help but laugh and cry at the same time.
She figured it out.
This child looks well-behaved and sensible, but deep down he's a stubborn one.
This way of addressing his wife is something he'll probably never be able to change in his lifetime.
However, she didn't insist any further.
Perhaps, this is for the best.
We grew up together, childhood sweethearts, and know each other inside and out.
This bond is much stronger than that of strangers outside.
Even after we get married in the future, our family can stay together forever.
As long as they don't shout in front of outsiders, let them do what they want at home.
Days passed quietly, one after another, on the wheels of bicycles, in the songs of kindergarten, and in the notes of the music room.
