Chapter 43 Funding Approval
Chapter 43 Funding Approval
Hearing someone call his name, Geng Zhi paused, his eyebrows slightly raised beneath his mask.
How could someone recognize you even while wearing a full-face mask? Looks like they know you.
He instinctively turned around, only to find that it was the girl in the black FILA T-shirt at the registration desk who had called out to him.
Now that they've already turned around following the sound, leaving would only make things more suspicious.
Geng Zhi hesitated for a moment, then calmly walked towards the two girls.
When Shu Beibei saw him approaching, she thought she had guessed correctly, and a smile of "just as I expected" appeared on her face.
"Excuse me, is there a pharmacy nearby? I'd like to buy some medicine," Geng Zhi suddenly asked.
Hmm? Did I make a mistake?
Shu Beibei was clearly stunned for a moment, then realized—this guy was deliberately changing the subject after being seen through, right?
She leaned closer, lowered her voice, and said with a sly glint in her eyes, "Don't pretend. I know you're here to do research for 'Jiaotong University Matchmakers.' Don't worry, I won't tell anyone, and I won't force you to take off your mask."
Upon hearing this, Geng Zhi knew there was no need to continue acting, so he simply raised his hand, removed his mask, and asked curiously, "How did you recognize me?"
"Haha, I saw your presentation, it was really great!" Shu Beibei smiled and generously extended her hand. "Hello, my name is Shu Beibei, this is my roommate Yang Mingxia, we are from the School of Humanities."
Just then, Geng Zhi's phone vibrated in his pocket.
He took out his phone and glanced at it; it was a text message from Li Haipeng:
[Li Haipeng]: "President Geng, how much longer until you get back? This bathroom smells so strong, I'm afraid I'll get pickled if I stay any longer!"
Geng Zhi's lips twitched as he looked up at Shu Beibei and the other woman and said, "Please wait a minute, I need to go to the restroom."
After saying that, he turned and walked quickly toward the restroom at the end of the corridor.
Two minutes later, Geng Zhi and Li Haipeng, who was wearing a mask, walked back one after the other.
Geng Zhi had already changed into Li Haipeng's coat, a move that seemed to transform him into a living person, leaving Shu Beibei and Yang Mingxia completely stunned.
"This is Zhao Dezhi. I just used his place, and now he's gone in on his own," Geng Zhi explained simply.
Shu Beibei and Yang Mingxia immediately understood, and without checking any documents, they let Li Haipeng in.
Geng Zhi, in a very familiar manner, pulled over an unused plastic stool, sat down next to the two of them, and began his on-site interview.
"Why don't you create a temporary QQ group for each of your association's events and add everyone in? Are you afraid of being poached?" he asked curiously.
"That's right. Once a group is created, people will contact each other more privately, or other organizations will poach people, so fewer people will come to participate in the next event," Yang Mingxia explained.
"Just as I thought."
During the ensuing casual conversation, Geng Zhi asked many questions about the operational details of this dating association.
After listening to the conversation, he realized that the "Jiaotong University matchmaker" had little value in cooperating with the other party. The only valuable thing was the group of single college students who came to participate in the event.
"Senior, when will your 'Jiaotong University Matchmaker' program officially launch? Are you short-staffed?" Shu Beibei suddenly asked, her eyes sparkling.
"Soon. What are you good at?" Geng Zhi looked at her directly.
"I'm good at hosting and event planning! There's a lot I can help with," Shu Beibei said enthusiastically. "What you talked about during your roadshow really resonated with me."
Geng Zhi nodded, then turned to Yang Mingxia: "What about you? Are you interested?"
Seeing her best friend's enthusiasm, Yang Mingxia was also tempted, but lacked confidence: "Me? I'd also like to give it a try... but I don't know what I'm capable of, I might not be as good at organizing as Beibei..."
"So how's your writing?" Geng Zhi asked again.
"Write novels?" Yang Mingxia was a little confused, and answered honestly, "I have written some romance short stories in my private life, but I have never published them..." Her voice grew softer and softer.
Geng Zhi was both amused and exasperated: "...What I mean is, would it be okay to write event previews, on-site reports, promotional copy, and the like?"
"Well... I've never formally written one before," Yang Mingxia thought for a moment, then mustered her courage, "but I think I can learn, I can give it a try!"
"Okay." Geng Zhi nodded, then suddenly changed the subject, extending his hand, "May I see your student ID cards?"
"Tch~ Senior, you don't trust us, do you?" Shu Beibei pouted, feigning displeasure, but deftly pulled out her card from her bag. "We're not like some people who would borrow other people's cards!" She winked mischievously.
Yang Mingxia smiled and took out her student ID card from her bag, handing it to Geng Zhi.
After verifying everything, Geng Zhi smiled with satisfaction and asked, "So, would you two be willing to do me a small favor now?"
"Senior, if you say so, we'll definitely help if we can!" Shu Beibei said readily.
"Okay." Geng Zhi only said one word, then gestured slightly towards the stack of registration forms on the table.
Shu Beibei and Yang Mingxia exchanged a glance, understood his meaning, and showed some difficulty on their faces.
"Judging whether something should be done or not essentially comes down to whether you are helping people or harming them," Geng Zhi offered a timely and insightful comment.
Yang Mingxia was the first to be convinced. Her eyes lit up, and she said excitedly in a low voice, "That's right! We're providing better choices for our classmates! We're doing a good deed!"
She then added, "Senior, I also have the contact information for all the students who participated in the activities in the last three sessions."
He gave her an appreciative look, then deliberately put on a stern face and said, "Why call me 'senior'? I'll be paying your salaries from now on, so just call me 'boss'!"
"Okay, boss!" the two said in unison, their voices tinged with excitement.
Geng Zhi originally planned to put on a new mask after the event, impersonate a staff member to distribute "event feedback forms," and collect the college students' QQ information a second time.
Now that I have two undercover agents of my own, I suddenly realize that it's completely unnecessary.
"So, boss, when can we officially join 'Jiaotong University Matchmakers'?" Shu Beibei was already quite impatient.
"If you resign from your positions here, then it's fine."
"That's tonight!" Yang Mingxia, even more impatient, stated directly, "I don't think there's much to do on this post."
Seeing this, Geng Zhi immediately called Li Haipeng: "Haipeng, come out now. We're done for the day, let's go back and get down to business."
When Li Haipeng came out and took off his mask, he introduced them to the two sides in a straightforward manner: "These are Shu Beibei and Yang Mingxia, our future partners."
Li Haipeng looked at Geng Zhi, who had only been inside for a short while but had already brought out two girls, and his face was full of shock, "This is possible?"
Geng Zhi then pointed to Li Haipeng and introduced him to Shu Beibei and the other person: "This is Li Haipeng, the co-founder and CMO of our company."
"Hello, Mr. Li!" the two girls greeted politely, then both frowned.
"Huh? Boss, isn't his name Zhao Dezhi?" Yang Mingxia asked with a puzzled look.
……
The undercover mission was successfully completed ahead of schedule. Geng Zhi and Li Haipeng left the event site first and went their separate ways.
Li Haipeng went back to purchase the event materials that Geng Zhi had asked him to provide, while Geng Zhi went straight to the library to prepare promotional posts for the Double Eleven event.
"Ring ring ring—!"
Geng Zhi had just reached the bottom of the library building when his phone rang. Seeing it was Hao Pengxiang calling, Geng Zhi pressed the answer button.
"Senior, I just received a text message. The funding for my startup pitch has been approved. They've notified me to go to the science and technology park on Monday to enter my bank account information." Li Haipeng on the other end of the phone was brimming with excitement.
"So fast?!" Geng Zhi was somewhat surprised; this efficiency exceeded his expectations.
"Okay, let's go together on Monday morning. I also need to go see Teacher Jin Zhilong."
